Help Us Reduce Avoidable Harm from NSAID Medicines
Duet Health Foundation is seeking partners to help with their work to reduce harm associated with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including ibuprofen, naproxen and aspirin.
Submit an Expression of InterestNSAIDs are among the most commonly used and easily obtainable medicines in the UK. Unless used with appropriate care and protection, they can cause serious, and even fatal, adverse drug reactions, including gastrointestinal bleeding, heart attack, stroke and kidney damage.
Published research (Pirmohamed et al., BMJ 2004;329:15-19) found that aspirin and other NSAIDs were implicated in around 30% of adverse drug reaction-related hospital admissions in the study population, many of which may have been preventable.
Our Aims
- Better understand the true scale of NSAID-associated hospitalisations and deaths.
- Evaluate current prescribing and risk-reduction practices.
- Develop practical recommendations to improve patient safety.

Submit an Expression of Interest
We welcome Expressions of Interest from universities, NHS organisations, research institutes, patient groups, charities, consultancies and specialist agencies.
If you are already researching safety of NSAIDs and/or believe your organisation could contribute to Duet's work on this topic, please send a short summary of:
- Your organisation and relevant expertise
- Experience of similar projects or programmes
- The areas of work you would be interested in supporting
- Any initial ideas or approaches you believe could add value
To submit an Expression of Interest, please contact Duet Health Foundation at info@duet.org.uk putting ‘Expression of Interest NSAIDs’ in the subject line.

Duet will review all Expressions of Interest and invite selected organisations to take part in further discussions. Depending on the expertise and proposals received, this may lead to commissioned work, grant-funded projects or collaborative partnerships as the programme develops.
